The Sunday Session presents
Zosia Jagodzinska + Gill Sandell
Award winning classically trained cellist Zosia Jagodzinska performs highly personal and original songs for cello and voice and piano and voice, accompanied by Simon Roth’s inventive and sensitive percussion playing.
Often described as 'hauntingly beautiful' and 'transfixing', the songs bring to life original poetry-influenced by the likes of Dylan Thomas and Rainer Maria Rilke, boldly confronting themes of death, sex, love and uncertainty in a harmonic language which lies-unsettled-somewhere between folk, contemporary classical and jazz.
Zosia received a distinction for her solo masters recital (Mmus) and composition modules at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, and has performed her songs at venues and festivals across the UK and Europe; garnering international attention from record labels and musicians keen to collaborate. She is recording her debut EP in early 2015 with rising jazz star Simon Roth, whose highly imaginative percussion playing is in demand across many genres.
Multi-instrumentalist and fast rising contemporary singer-songwriter Gill Sandell has a wealth of experience performing with artists such as Frank Turner and as a member of Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo. Yet she is at her most potent performing her own captivating blend of delicate but lyrical modernist folk: her sweet delivery disguises a dry wit and some darkly complex, nuanced song writing.
