We're releasing a 7" vinyl record called Vestige in May and would like to share it with you. We called up some bands we know and think you will like. We called up our favourite venue and they gave us a Saturday evening. Let's make a night of it.
Tickets $12 adv/$15 at the door, and are available at The Park Theatre, Music Trader, Into the Music, and Ticketfly.com. Presented by UMFM.
YES WE MYSTIC
A five-piece group from Winnipeg, Yes We Mystic grabs ideas and aesthetics from all over the map and ventures to morph them into something entirely different. They take their favorite bits of folk, rock, and R&B, hurl strings and mandolins together with synthesizers, pedals, and samples, and come up with music that can mellow and groove but climb in an instant to towering, frenzied heights. Throwing opposites together creates a space. Yes We Mystic prides itself in living in these spaces.
In Vestige, they begin to reveal what they have long been planning; music with the same heart, but with a different face. Folk, while still hinted at, has moved to the background. By approaching genre as a tool rather than a barrier, a wider swath of sounds is available to convey the same style and emotion that they have valued since the start. If Wood Wheel pushes the sonic boundaries that the band set up with Floods and Fires, then The Contest of Strength demolishes them.
Currently Yes We Mystic are writing songs for their full length debut in a dank room above a pizza restaurant. That record will be produced by Jace Lasek (Besnard Lakes, Patrick Watson, Wolf Parade) in June and released in 2016.
ADAM HANNEY & CO.
The premise of Adam Hanney’s forthcoming LP “12/12″ is simple: One song, each month, for one year. It was an exercise in songwriting that turned into a 3 year process of writing, recording, and learning. Since it's simple inception at the beginning of 2012, the album has been put through it's paces time and time again. Starting with the pressure of delivering a concise piece of music every 30 days, then later moving on to the daunting task of developing each song past their simple acoustic-guitar-and-main-vocal origin and into something much more. "12/12" touches on youthful indie rock, searing alt-country, eerie synth pop, traditional RnB ballads, and contemporary singer-songwriter pieces, all while documenting a year-in-the-life of the then 18-year-old songwriter.
With the addition & accompaniment of his band Co., the now 21-year-old singer-songwriter is set to release his first full-length album in 2015.
Four charismatic individuals brimming with confidence and beauty.
