Rambling folk singer Will Varley, who last year walked over 500 miles along England's south coast with a guitar on his back, is heading back out on the road having announced 16 new UK dates throughout May. This time though, not only does he have a tour bus, he’s also got an album deal, having just signed to Xtra Mile Recordings, the home of Frank Turner and Beans On Toast.
His last two received rave reviews from The Independent, fRoots & Q magazine and in February 2014 the 27 year old singer-songwriter was invited to open for Frank Turner, who described him as "One the best singer-songwriters in the UK." Last year, he was also named as one of Time Out's rising stars of 2015 and his high-energy live shows, which jump effortlessly from tackling heartbreaking love songs to hilarious shaggy dog stories, are becoming the stuff of legends. His self-made music videos have clocked up hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube, bringing attention to his songs from all over the world.
His return from the walking tour saw tracks played on BBC Radio 2, 6 & XFM including mentions from Steve Lamacq, Communion Records show and Rob Da Bank. Last summer saw Varley visit some of the country’s finest music festivals, performing his fiery brand of contemporary folk songs from Kendal Calling to Cambridge Folk Festival and everywhere in between. He was also invited and played the prestigious BBC Introducing stage at this year’s Secret Garden Party.
The young troubadour's third album will see him pushing the boundaries of the 'one man and a guitar' format once again as he tackles crazily ambitious subjects such as the history of the world in under four minutes, and the story of someone’s life from birth to death. With absolutely no one else like him on the acoustic scene, Will Varley’s show is one you have to catch live.
