Type in at Answers.com "How many people die from starvation in the United States" & here is the answer you will get:
Starvation rates in the United States are generally not recorded due to the relative infrequency of the occurrence. Generally speaking, most people do not starve to death in America as a result of lack of access to food. A combination of government food programs and private charities help to ensure this.
Then try this one. "How many people die of starvation in Nigeria." You will get this answer:
Last year, about 1 million children under the age of 5 died because of starvation in Nigeria.
This simple answer on Answers.com shakes me to the core. How does your heart not break for these children? We live in a blessed nation. Your kids, more than likely, are not going to die because they aren't getting enough to eat. Please don't turn a blind eye when you have a chance to touch a child's life. You might be their only hope.
We now have 27 children in our Orphanage in Nigeria. Ages range from 4 months to 11 years. On August 4th we were asked if we could accept a child that is 2 years old with a medical condition. We said we would take this sweet little girl Elizabeth Samson. Her medical condition: Malnutrition. When children are found they are immediately brought to our orphanage. She was brought to us because her mother was "insane" and there were no close relatives to take care of her.
Warehouse of Hope is Abiye's sole income. Local support only brings in about $600USD. We send $1400 a month. Once the financial report is sent, all the bills are paid, there is only about $50 remaining. Our new director listed immediate challenges:
1. Diapers are insufficient for our use
2. Refreshments for staff on duty
His statement was: "Not enough money to buy pampers. Napkins should be used when there are no pampers and sanitizer should be made available. Staff should add it to their duty to plead the public to donate pampers for use of the children."
I'm in the process of finding out the cost of diapers there but being that we have at least 11 children still needing diapers this is a huge burden for them.
A little information on the staff. There are 9 staff who work 12 hour days making $125 a month. But donations to the orphanage are so low that the director of the orphanage sent this statement:
"Staff should prepare food from home and pack in warmer for break time, but once in a awhile Administrator should provide biscuits for staff on duty but should not be taken as a right."
Come on. I mean how many of us American are spoiled by those snacks or coffee in the break room? They are there for 12 hours a day and they can't get enough extra funding to offer these ladies a snack or have enough food available that they can eat what they are preparing for the 27 children there?
This baffles me. In a country that has over 78,056,000 million Muslims they, as Christians, are the minority. We need to be showing them the love of Christ. That someone loves them. We might be the only Christians that influence their lives. We need to be the hands and feet of God for these kids. Give them a reason to fight for the name of Jesus in a country that shuns the name of Jesus.
We need you guys. I'm pleading. My heart hurts for these kids. As my little girl complained about what cereal I gave her for breakfast this morning it fired up something deep in me. I don't want to raise a spoiled, ignorant, American child. I want her to ache for the needy in such a way that she would give up everything to give to someone less fortunate than her. What kind of generation are we raising up that we can't spare a few dollars and skip coffee and give it to a child who's only hope is YOU.
Please pray and know that without you these kids will continue to struggle & fight and wonder "where is this Jesus that is supposed to save us?" God uses us all as instruments, will you let him use you today?
Deuteronomy 15:10: (NLT) Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the LORD your God will bless you in everything you do.
Please donate. You can do so on our Facebook page under the "Donate Today" button or on our website: www.warehouseofhope.squarespace.com. Please make sure you put under special instructions "For the Orphanage"!
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I'm still working on getting a picture of Miss Elizabeth & as soon as I get the current cost of diapers I will let you know. I will keep you informed with things I find out! Another good thing is that any amount you donate 100% goes straight to the orphanage. Not just a certain % the whole amount goes straight to them. Makes me feel better about donating. Thanks
