Hello teachers, friends and family! The staff at Washington Elementary is hosting a book drive in order to provide lots of good reading material to our students for summer reading.
Typically, our students are losing ground on literacy skills they have acquired because of summer slide, and most of our students can't afford books or don't have anyone to take them to a library. Teachers and other staff are trying to combat this by providing meaningful and relevant reading material and hosting summer book exchanges for kids to trade and acquire new books throughout the summer.
In order to make this successful, we need A LOT of books! If you or anyone you know has books that you are thinking of getting rid of, don't need anymore, or would like to donate, please SEND THEM OUR WAY!
If you are in a position to donate books, we would appreciate them to be gently used. Here are some ideas of what we need:
-youth magazines appropriate for K-6
-chapter books (2nd-7th grade appropriate)
-informational books (i.e. Guiness world records, interesting facts, general non-fiction topics that are interesting and popular to kids)
Please drop off your books at Washington Elementary after school between 3pm and 5pm. We cannot tell you how much this will mean to our staff and students. Thank you so much!!!!
