Dear friends of the animals, The Volunteer Days at the animal sanctuaries have proved to be both popular and enjoyable for people who want to help the cause and enjoy the interaction with the animals. We will meet on the 3rd Sunday of every month at around 11am. The Retreat Animal Rescue is a vegan run sanctuary that cares for over 3,000 animals at any one time and offers much needed support to all animals - farmed, domestic and wild. Their aims are to educate the public that all animals need commitment, love and respect. The Retreat is a rescue centre which saves tormented, abused, sick, injured and unwanted animals from certain death. Some of their residents include: ex-race horses, ex-riding school ponies, injured live export sheep, cows saved from slaughter, ex-petting farm goats, injured birds, ferrets, Christmas turkeys, worn-out battery hens, disabled non-releasable wildlife, fish, small domestics, old or feral and FIV cats, and dogs who have failed behaviour tests in other dog homes. Billy Thompson is the founder of the centre and has devoted his life to the cause. More information can be found here: http://www.retreatanimalrescue.org.uk/ There is always lots to do including feeding, mucking out and/or doing any other sanctuary ad hoc task. You will need wellies, a change of clothing and GARDENING GLOVES. This is also an opportunity to meet like minded people. Please bring food/snack or pot luck to share during your break (this is a vegan place therefore vegan food would be preferred). Coffee and tea is usually provided in the volunteer kitchen. Trains run from Charing Cross station, note they can be very pricey if there are not FOUR people to get a good discount. If you plan to go by train, suggest you arrange with others in advance to meet at ticket office. Train leaves Charing Cross at 9.40am arrives 10.58am The return fare with GROUP DISCOUNT of four people is £17.90 (or £28.50 for 1 (yikes!)) If driving, the journey is fairly straight forward and parking is available at the sanctuary - please offer lifts where possible to other volunteers who can share petrol costs. Address: The Retreat Animal Rescue, Brickyard Farm, Cripple Hill, High Halden, Kent TN26 3LJ Unfortunately, the animal ambulance can only accommodate two people so lifts from the station are not possible and would suggest a shared taxi or relying on the goodwill of driving volunteers to pick up from the station. Billy's mobile 07720 495238 Email: Theretreatanimalrescue@btinternet.com This is for those who love working with animals and helping where help is needed.
