Join local historian Cheryl Copper for a walking tour of historic Cedar Grove Cemetery. Cedar Grove was established in 1825 & was Norfolk's first burial place without religious affiliation. It opened in 1825 - though its use as a burial ground began much earlier. Find out how & why. Get the lay of the land more than 200 years ago - very different from today's setting - in this introduction to a 'portal to the past'. Learn about the rise of early trades & how cemeteries reflect the society that builds them. Get a glimpse of notables interred here. Cheryl will also share the Callis family's story culled from personal archives of Civil War era letters & images.
