CLOSING THURSDAY, MAY 21, 7-10PM
Provocative performance and video work are featured in this solo exhibition from EMP Collective member, Emilia Pennanen.
Toppling systems of oppression and patriarchal foundations of power, Pennanen’s work places the empowerment of the feminine female at its center. By deconstructing taboos of the female body, Pennanen seeks to redefine and reinstate control and ownership of one’s own body.
Tidal Swell opens on Saturday, May 9, with a night of Pennanen’s video installations and performances from Emilia Pennanen, Jennifer Wright, and Carly J. Bales.
In addition, the opening and closing nights will feature performances works from local artists in conversation with Pennanen’s exhibition exploring patriarchal power structures in gender representation, female sexuality, body ownership, pleasure of different types of bodies, and authority of a body.
Addtional artists include Carly J Bales, Hoesy Corona, Allana Clark, Noelle Tolbert, Michael Wasteneys Stephens and Jennifer Wright.
