THE YOUNG NOVELISTS
Exclaim! dubbed their first EP “unpretentious brilliance” and this six-piece folk-roots band has won critical acclaim ever since. BlogTO called them "one of the top 5 folk bands to watch in Toronto" and their live shows capture audiences with both barnstorming singalongs and poignant ballads. Their new album 'made us strangers' will be released on April 28th.
Canadian Folk Music Award nominee, Jill Zmud, calls her music "torch folk" (a mix of folk, Americana, gospel, blues, roots and soul)… tinged with grit, gospel, heartache and hope… forged from loss and new beginnings. The Ottawa Citizen describes Jill’s music in this way: "(a) rich, soulful voice imprinted itself on the crowd and she left everyone longing for another sample". Whatever you call it, Jill and her trio melt the audience down with warm, vibrant sounds, gospel-tinged harmonies and a perfect mix of acoustic and electric goodness. The trio are currently touring new material from Jill’s CFMA-nominated release Small Matters of Life and Death, the follow-up album to her critically-acclaimed As We Quietly Drive By.
