As the Weirdo Show in its current iteration is winding down towards September, we here producing the show are doing as much fan service as we can. Those who have been with us since the beginning, even back in the Palace days, have missed the full on stage magic shows that used to happen. While there have been some wonderful magicians come through our show in the past years, no show devoted just to them! So back to bring wonder and amazement, lets meet our performers!
Rich Potter began his career with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and credits include Late Show with David Letterman, China’s Kim Tom Clown Festival, and many college and corporate shows, as well as at fairs and festivals. He has thrilled audiences in 25 countries throughout Europe, Asia and North America. For nine years, he treated hospitalized children as a therapeutic clown with Big Apple Circus Clown Care at Children’s National Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Since 2010, he has been Co-Producer of Washington DC’s Clown Cabaret.
As a teacher, he has taught thousands of people the joy and philosophy of juggling, as well as principles of physical and verbal comedic performance. When not performing, he paints and draws his unique and humorous visions of the Universe.
Ruby Lipschtick is an arresting new face in the Washington, DC burlesque scene. Fast-talking, fast-walking, this dame is just plain fast (if you catch our drift), but give her some sultry jazz and she knows how to slow right down. Ruby mixes icy glamour, sweet sensuality, and screwball zing in an intoxicating cocktail that leaves audiences clamoring for another round.
Ruby regularly performs with the DC Gurly Show, DC’s longest-running and only queer burlesque troupe. She's appeared at local venues including the Black Cat, the Bier Baron, and the Pinch, and has guest performed with the DC Kings.
Karen Beriss has been a professional magician for nearly 20 years. Karen has performed around the world, putting her magic and dry sense of humor to good use. She feels honored to be a member of The Big Apple Circus Clown Care program performing at Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore., MD and Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC. She is a co-producer of DC's Clown Cabaret, a monthly showcase of Clown in Washington DC and is a regular at The Comedy Zone in Washington DC. Karen has performed at the Kennedy Center, National Theater and a variety of other spots from large to small theaters. Plus, she has performed for celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Kirstie Alley, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, the Washington Capitals and Robert Goulet. And, for what it's worth, Karen's mom thinks she's funny.
Steve Hyde saw his first magician in 1963. He performed his first show in 1973. Since then he has performed in almost every kind of venue, including cruise ships, and street performing in Miami, Las Vegas and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
We are thrilled to have Eric Henning return to our stage! People often tell Eric that he reminds them of the great magicians of the past. That's no coincidence, since he has spent more than three decades studying and performing some of the greatest magic in history. While still a student, Eric's love of magic's lore took him to the Maryland Renaissance Festival. More recently, the National Theatre featured his "Turn of the Century" - a Victorian-style show with wonders not seen for a hundred years. His award-winning blend of wit and wizardry has been seen around the world, from the streets of Paris to the White House, where he has performed for President Obama and the First Family. Add in three Presidential Inaugurals and five other White House appearances, and you have a truly Presidential prestidigitator!
Finally we have someone mystifying in his own right, Swami YoMahmi! Swami YoMahmi presents phenomenal feats of sideshow hilarity using shattered glass, rusty nails, a staple gun, razor blades, bondage, a love of pop culture and a rubber chicken. Even if you've seen sideshow before, you've never seen anything like Swami YoMahmi.
To say this will be a unique show is being kind. This show will certainly be one of a kind! We hope to see you there!
