Combining portions of Hip-Hop, Pop, Rock and Electro into one melodic element of noise, welcome to the new innovative sound of The LaFontaines.
The band, hailing from the region of Motherwell/Scotland, fuse all four genres whilst, keepin’ it real with live instruments played on stage as well as in studio. The lyrics are often socially conscious and add to the bands home-grown feel, you pick up on as the authentic Scottish lead vocal drops.
Formed at the dawn of 2008, the five piece, have a clear direction on where they want to take their music and after conjuring up a strong local following showcasing their energetic live stage performances at venues such as: King Tuts, Carling Academy and the Live at Loch Lomond Festival ‘08 and the T Break stage at T in the Park 2011 they have gained a huge fan base all over the UK.
The band are named after American voice actor, Don LaFontaine. They signed with the Manchester based record company, LAB Records in 2013. The band consists of the frontman Kerr Okan, guitarists Iain Findlay,Darren McCaughey, bassist John Gerrard and drummer Jamie Keenan. The band picked up the Best Live Act award at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards. In 2013 they won the Big Apple award and they were picked to perform in New York as part of the Scotland week.Furthermore they been hailed as 'the best live band in Scotland' by the Sunday Mail. Throughout their career so far, the band has supported the likes of: Twin Atlantic, All Time Low, The Ting Tings, 3OH!3, The Blackout, N-Dubz, The Cool Kids, Professor Green and Tinchy Stryder. The band’s lyrical content is often a social commentary on today’s modern culture. Their record ‘All She Knows’ produced by Matt O’ Grady, secured daytime airplay on BBC Radio 1 as well as commercial stations across the UK. It received its audio premier on the Rock Sound website, which earned the band a double page feature in the national newspapers, Sunday Mail and The Sun.
The LaFontaines have released three records. Their first single, "Light up the Background" was released in June 2012, followed by their second single "All She Knows" the following year. Their latest single "Under the Storm" was released in April 2014; this track was chosen as the soundtrack to T in the Park's viral announcement video.
The LaFontaines debut album is scheduled for release in 2015!
