I am mentoring a student who is organizing a Color Run to "Stomp Out Human Trafficking."
Heather Blaney, a Junior at Westmont High School, is organizing this event because she feels this is her calling.
Her goal is to raise $5,000 to support the opening of Cherish House, a long-term, trauma-informed, residential treatment facility dedicated to giving girls who are rescued victims of child sex trafficking a place of love, support, and emotional healing.
Why is this such a critical issue?
There are over 50,000 victims of Human Trafficking in Chicago alone, yet there are less than 200 beds available to minors who are victims of sex trafficking in the United States. In Illinois, there are less than 15.
