The Ballet of Peter Pan will be performed by Saint Augustine Ballet at Flagler College's Lewis Auditorium on May 16 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.. Tickets are $25 and can be bought at www.tututix.com/saintaugustineballet or by calling 855-222-2849.
The ballet is filled with swashbuckling pirates, beautiful fairies and mermaids, a ticking crocodile, and of course, Peter Pan and Wendy.
Pirates, courtesy of the Saint Augustine Pirate Museum, and the St. Augustine Swashbucklers, will roam the lobby of Lewis Auditorium, and the audience is encouraged to come dressed in pirate garb to avoid being kidnapped and taken off to Neverland. Be sure to watch out for the crocodile, courtesy of The Saint Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park. He won’t be ticking, so you’ll have to be careful not to back into him. There will also be live mermaids and music by pirate musician, Dirty James and Captain Babossa!
Saint Augustine Ballet’s guest artists will be the Cuban trained, world-class dancers, Margit Vargas Rodriguez and Daet Rodriguez. Margit and Daet both trained at the prestigious National Ballet School of Cuba in Havana and later danced with Cuba's Ballet de Camaguey, and the Teatro Centro de Arte-Leon Febres Cordero in Ecuador. Their dance careers have taken them all over the world and now onto the stage of Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College. The two also choreographed The Ballet of Peter Pan.
Local celebrity pirate, Captain William Mayhem, will be making a special appearance as Captain Hook. Also known as the Pirate Magician of Saint Augustine, Captain Mayhem is an experienced Las Vegas entertainer and current Pirate Magician in residence at the Saint Augustine Pirate Museum.
Tapping their way into the production will be “Noise Complaint,” Florida's premiere professional tap ensemble, led by their lead dancer/choreographer, Jenne Vermes.
Saint Augustine Ballet is a 501(c)3 non-profit performing arts organization dedicated to creating dance opportunities for students of dance and appreciative audiences. The Ballet of Peter Pan is sponsored by Saltwater Property Group, Inc., Saint Johns Family Dentistry, the Saint Augustine Alligator Zoological Park, the Saint Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum, the St. Augustine Record, numerous other local businesses, and individual supporters.
