Steve Poltz is obsessed with the challenge of knowing and understanding the thoughts of each and every person in his audience. He is a lover of life; fascinated by all things large and small. As a road-tested troubadour armed with whimsy, curiosity and a healthy respect for the absurdities of existence, he is unafraid of saying yes, unafraid of letting his relentless, giddy energy fill a room and he is unafraid of letting his streams-of-consciousness take him where he needs to go.
“History and legend have often found their way into my songs” reflects Grant-Lee Phillips. “But sometimes, I don’t have to look quite so far to find inspiration.” Walking in the Green Corn is the newest album by Grant-Lee Phillips. Its ten songs are drawn from Phillips’ intensive investigations into his native lineage. Phillips, who is Muskogee (Creek), elliptically explores the intersection of past and present, personal and political. While the songs delve deeply into the subconscious mystery of his own backstory, they simultaneously reveal the resonance and insight of ancient myth in parallel to contemporary man’s emotions, actions, and errors.
The Modern Roots Foundation is a non-profit 501c3 organization. The purpose of the Modern Roots Foundation is to provide kids with free music instruction and access to "roots" stringed instruments. With music and arts programs all but disappearing from our public school systems, we feel the need to freely give the gift of learning to our youth. If this is important to you, like it is to us, please visit our website and see what you can do to help out.
