Jackson Harlem School of the Arts will host its Spring Concert, "Ima Ima- L'dor Vador", by composer/violinist Meg Okura- a Japanese Jewish American composer and a Grammy nominated violinist who strives to create cross-cultural dialogue through music. Okura melds cultural and ethnic references into her jazz compositions by incorporating indigenous modes and rhythms. “Ima Ima; L’dor Vador” is a reflection of an internal journey of a new mom, facing many challenges as she raises her Japanese/black/Jewish daughter in Harlem, in today’s polarized society. PACJE, consisting of musicians of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, will demonstrate interracial, cross-cultural harmony through jazz, which requires active listening of one another while artfully expressing one’s unique voice.
