10:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M.
As every Battle of Gettysburg buff knows, the battle involved or affected not only men (both military and civilian) but also women and children. Join Pat Anscheutz of American Stories Historic Walking Tours & Programs and us as we learn more about “Children at Gettysburg” and their personal experiences of the battle.
We will cover not only well-known individuals such as Tillie Pierce and Sadie and Mollie Shriver, but also many lesser known youth and their personal accounts such as Henry Jacobs, Albertus McCreary, Billy Bayly, and others.
The tour will have several stops and will be both a walking and driving tour.
Location: Meet in Alumni Park at the southeast corner of the intersection of Baltimore Street and Lefever Street. Park in the parking lot of the Gettysburg Middle School. .
Tour Fee: $ 16.00 per person (includes tour handouts, discount coupons for 19 local Gettysburg businesses and attractions, light refreshments, a prize drawing, and a “Meet and Greet” afterward).
Additional Info: Light refreshments will be provided before, during, and after the tour (bottled water, small bags of potato chips and pretzels, chocolate chip cookies, and tootsie rolls). In addition to the discount coupons, The Lincoln Train Museum is offering a special discount that day for the tour attendees: a discounted rate of $4.00 per adult and $3.00 per child. Individuals need not show in a group -- a family need only mention they attended the "Children of Gettysburg" tour to receive the discount.
“Meet and Greet”: Pat Anscheutz will be available after the tour’s conclusion for further discussion on the upper level of O’Rorke’s Eatery and Spirits at 44 Steinwehr Avenue in downtown Gettysburg. Meet us there at 1:00.
