Known for their hardcore New York-style salsa, the band’s 13 world-class instrumentalists and vocalists make music bursting with punchy horns and vocals straight from the barrio. Orchestra founder Oscar Hernandez began his career in the ‘70s as an arranger and musical director or artists like Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Celia Cruz, and many others Rooted in both Africa and Cuba, the orchestra’s raw, vintage sound is filled with rhythm—the musical embodiment of the steamy, culturally rich neighborhood of Spanish Harlem.
