Racing Season at Slinger Speedway has begun, that means that Memorial Go-Kart Racing will start soon. As always the opener for the Go-Kart Racing Season is the Spaghetti Dinner. The Spaghetti Dinner is a fundraising event for the youth participating in Memorial Go-Kart Racing. The dinner will be Saturday, May 16th from 4:00-8:00pm. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Tickets are available from Memorial Go-Kart members, Romies BP in Allenton and Smiley's BP in Slinger.
Memorial Go-Kart Inc. is a community based, non-profit organization that focuses on providing area youth across Southeast Wisconsin (ages 7-18) with positive, team building activities. MGK was formed in 2008, after a tragic traffic accident claimed the life of Parker Klumb, 13 of Allenton. Parker and his friends had a dream of building and racing go-karts. Youth are the inspiration for the creation of Memorial Go-Kart Inc. Since 2008, over 20 teams and 125 area youth have participated in the program, which involves building and working on go- karts, as well as racing at events throughout the summer at Slinger Super Speedway. Racers from the speedway volunteer their time to mentor the teams. Local businesses sponsor the go-karts and the racing events. Proceeds from Memorial Go-Kart activities are dedicated to local scholarships for students seeking careers in Auto Mechanics, Auto Body, Welding or any trade related field. Since 2008, MGK has also donated nearly $30,000 in scholarships for area youth.
MGK not only serves as a positive activity for our area youth, but also as a healing for local families who have experienced the loss a child.
The 2015 schedule for MGK includes the Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday May 16th in Allenton, as well as racing events on the Sunday mornings of May 17th, June 14th, June 28th, July 19th and August 9th at the Slinger Super Speedway. The very special Tribute Event is Saturday, September 12th which includes racing, a silent auction and a powerful “Balloons to Heaven” ceremony to remember those youth who were taken away from us way too soon. The public is encouraged to attend and support MGK events! To find out more about MGK, events or become a volunteer visit www.memorialgo-kart.org.
