Snowdonia has been a centre of magic and spiritual power since time immemorial. It was the hinterland of the ancient Druids. Some of the oldest surviving stories of Britain arose there – about the Enchantment of Bran, the Woman of Flowers, the Quest for Mabon, the Cauldron of Inspiration, Merlin and the Dragons… When these stories are told in their places something happens. You get charged up. You tap into the mythic mains. Even in London this feeling rubs off…
Eric Maddern worked in the Aboriginal communities of Central Australia. But for the last 28 years he’s lived in Snowdonia creating the Cae Mabon Eco-Retreat Centre (www.caemabon.co.uk). As well as being an eco-archirect, an actor, an activist, and musician, he’s a singer-storyteller and has just completed ‘Snowdonia Folktales’ for The History Press.
