At last! A FOUR HOUR Jazz workshop, with Trisha, in Manchester, that's open to EVERYONE!
Just £30 (in person and online, via Dancerfly)
and £25 for students/low wage (available in person only)!
In-person bookings open at Manchester Lindy on the 17th of February - Online bookings open on the 26th of February, via Dancerfly.
Manchester Lindy is proud to declare May 17th 2015 the very first 'International Train Like a Hotsy Totsy Day' starring international authentic Jazz whizz, noted choreographer (and now Hotsy Totsy art director) Trisha Sewell!
If you're a Northern Swing dancer you've probably heard about The Hotsy Totsys - the North's very own all girl authentic Jazz troupe. Inspired by the chorus lines, flappers and Tiller Girls of the past and the performance groups of the present (The Dixie Dinahs, The Chee Chee Girls) The Totsys have been rehearsing fortnightly since 2014, under the watchful eye of their eminent art director, Trisha Sewell.
This 4 hour workshop with Trisha, hosted by Manchester Lindy is your chance to experience the kind of detailed, multi-layered teaching that the Totsys have been treated to for more than 6 months already.
Trisha is one of the leading figures in the revival of Authentic Jazz in the UK, and that's not all:
'Trisha has natural flair, a unique touch and very distinctive style on the dance floor. Her focus is to recreate the look of the original dancers of Lindy Hop, mixed with providing followers with drills, technique and musicality. An accomplished musician & experienced in Tap she helps others to understand rhythms and how to improvise within the dance. She has had formal training in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Tap and musical theatre since the age 5'
This workshop is PERFECT for YOU if you are:
a) a spiritual Totsy, unable to make a regular rehearsal commitment
b) a Lindy Hopper, keen to find a deeper understanding of your own movement and wanting to add a more authentic period look to your partnered dancing
c) male (thwarted by Trisha's Follow only Sugabomb workshops)
d) a Tap dancer, interested in investigating Tap's sibling dance
e) a beginner, looking for a head start in styling and musicality
f) a super- advanced dancer, wanting to analyse the details of technique
g) a dancer of any persuasion or discipline who happens to be in Manchester on May 17th
h) a Hotsy Totsy!
The Totsys have worked hard and come a long way - although they still have a way to go - but with a little bit of luck (and a lot of Northern grit) they'll make it all the way to the 'Jazz Roots' category at the European Swing Dance Championships (2016. Hehe).
As always, tickets are non-refundable, but we will put you in touch with folk on the wait list for peer-to-peer sales.
(Yes, we know that the unfortunate date change of the awesome Hullzapoppin made for a clash. We're pretty sad about that too :( )
