We are contacting you today to tell you about a dear friend of ours, Amanda Baldwin, and how your help can help make a marked improvement in her day to day life. Amanda suffers from a degenerative disease known as Friedreich's Ataxia, a rare inherited disease that causes nervous system damage and movement problems. Amanda received her diagnosis in 1996 at the age of ten. Since then her condition has worsened and her freedom has become restricted. Now at only twenty eight years of age she is confined to a motorized wheelchair. Although Amanda has a strong will and vibrant spirit, it is becoming increasingly difficult for her to maintain employment and go out and enjoy the city she loves, especially through our harsh Buffalo winters. Often times she finds herself having to call in sick to her job because she can't get her chair through the ice and snow. She must call a special bus that can accommodate her special needs, at an exorbitant cost and at the risk that the bus's schedule will take her two hours out of her way. Amanda also suffers from diabetes and needs to be able to keep a routine in order to stay healthy and these lengthy bus trips can seriously interrupt her ability to do that.
Amanda is a loyal patron to many restaurants and music venues in the area. We are asking you today to make a donation to the fund we have started on her behalf which will be used to help her pay for buses and taxis as she needs them throughout the year, with our ultimate goal being to obtain a specially converted vehicle that Amanda could operate herself from her chair giving her more independence to succeed with that amazing spirit she possesses.
We will be holding a benefit on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Evening Star Music Hall in Niagara Falls. We will be featuring several local area bands who have graciously agreed to donate their time and talents to help Amanda’s cause. We will also hold a basket raffle and ask that you consider donating a basket, service or funds directly to her GoFund me account “Slashtacular Amanda Baldwin Benefit Fund” www.gofundme.com/ldo6e4 Thank you so very much for helping!
