The Enfield Shaker Singers are inspired by two aspects of Shaker theology and worship practice - the use of dance to heighten one's experience of praise, and the Shaker belief in the dual nature of God. Shakers testify that both the male and female are reflected in God’s essence. Mary Ann Haagen, Musical Director of the Enfield Shaker Singers, will lead a vocal and dance performance contextualized by readings from Shaker letters and journals that celebrates the importance of women in Shaker communities and the Shaker belief in a God who is both mother and father to God’s people. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the New York State Library and will take place in the Huxley Theater on the first floor of the Cultural Education Center. Registration is recommended.
