Join Latino Public Broadcasting and Bridge Strategies as we host an innovative screening and dicussion of the new PBS/VOCES documentary, Now en Español.
The evening will begin with a catered reception where attendees will engage in primer activities, followed by a screening of the documentary and Q&A with the director and actresses.
About the documentary: Now en Español follows the travels of five Latina actresses in Los Angeles who dub Desparate Housewives, for Spanish language audiences in the U.S. These dynamic women struggle to persue their Hollywood careers, while balancing the responsibilities of paying rent and raising children. As they come up against an industry that offers little by way of balanced or compelling roles, their elusive success reveals the persistent inequities of Latino representation in the American media.
About the series: VOCES is a documentary series aimed at showcasing independent Latino voices, and the depth and brilliance of the Latino cultural heritage. This series is produced in partnership with Latino Public Broadcasting, PBS and presented by PBS SoCal. Support comes from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, NALAC, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
