The fourth of our Run the Oxford Parks orienteering races for 2015! Hugely popular so far, with events at Hill End, Cutteslowe Park and Shotover Country Park, why not come along and try a new adventure sport? Ideal for all ages and abilities - runners and also families and children. University Parks is always a popular venue, so come and join the fun!
An orienteering race doesn't follow a set route. Instead you have to visit a series of checkpoints and register each one with an electronic timing chip. The checkpoints are marked by flags on the ground and may be along paths, earth banks, streams or in the parkland and woods. The challenge is to choose your own route between the checkpoints, using a special orienteering map (which you get to keep too). Great fun! Why not come and give it a go?
Courses will range from 1km to 5km (straight line distances between the checkpoints, so you’ll run further!). Plenty of help will be available; no need to book, just turn up any time between 10am and 11.30am. Limited parking (pay and display) on nearby streets, otherwise please try and use park and ride. Race registration will be near the pavilion in the centre of University Parks, Parks Road, central Oxford, OX1 3PL.
