"Ride the Rock" is a free, family 16-mile bike ride and festival returning for its ninth year on Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Lower Rock Run Preserve - I&M Canal Access in Joliet. This event is hosted by the Forest Preserve District of Will County and presented by CenterPoint Properties, the event's title sponsor for 2015.
The ride begins at I&M Canal Access and travels the Rock Run Greenway Trail, Joliet Junction Trail, and I&M Canal State Trail for a 16-mile loop.
Four rest stops will offer refreshments and restrooms along the route. Additional family-friendly festivities will continue at I&M Canal Access until 1 p.m. These include BMX stunt shows, children's activities, a rock climbing wall, a petting zoo, and bike safety checks. Food will be available for purchase.
Check-in for pre-registered riders will begin at 9 a.m., and same-day registration will be open from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The last rider should set out on the trail by 10:30 a.m. The first 1,000 pre-registered riders to check in at the event will receive a free T-shirt.
This event is open to all ages, but it is recommended for individual riders to be at least 11 years of age. All participants are encouraged to wear a helmet.

The majority of the trail is paved, and includes some sidewalks and street routes. The degree of difficulty is easy to moderate. In providing programs and services to the public, the Forest Preserve District will make reasonable modifications to ensure that all people have an equal opportunity to enjoy District offerings.
