Three heroes of the British live music scene each perform two sets to kickstart Richmond's Live Music Revival - a fundriasing event at the newly refurbished Queen Charlotte Hall.
The Jim Mullen Trio brings together three of the leading jazz exponents in the UK. Led by legendary jazz guitar 'uber statesman' Jim Mullen, with Mike Gorman on organ and Matt Skelton on drums. Expect hard swinging sets of melodic, blues drenched modern jazz. It’s a mixture of “tradition and transition” as he puts it. Contemporary knowledge applied to a basic determination to swing.
Peter Bruntnell is the highly acclaimed singer-songwriter. His album ‘Peter And The Murder Of Crows’ found reviewers and fans alike comparing him with Nick Drake and John Martyn. It was one of Q magazine's Albums Of The Year and was an Americana Album Of The Month in MOJO Magazine. He performing with Peter Bruntnell Band near his childhood home town of Kingston.
Host for the evening, Gary Brewer is a stalwart of the UK rhythm and blues scene. In the 80s, his band Little Sister toured the world and backed musical greats such as Etta James, Alison Moyet. His sparing, rhythmic, blues guitar and rasping vocals are accompanied by the tightest of rhythm sections. The Gary Brewer Band is the perfect antidote to any post-election Blues.
It's an evening of live music all the way so make sure you arrive early so as not to miss the pre-event performances a6 7pm by talented musicians and tutors from Richmond Jazz School in the foyer. The headline artists' first sets wil start from 7.45pm.
And don't forget to get a late license. At the Aftershow Party (10.30pm - 11.30pm) you will have a chance to meet the artists and, if we're lucky, listen to some impromptu post-show acoustic performances.
All ticket proceeds and bar/merchandise profits will go towards a new bursary to support lower income students access Richmond Adult Community College (RACC)'s wide range of music-related courses.
