In this class students will learn to use Special Reticulation Silver Sheet (80/20 Silver) to create Reticulated Texture Sheet that will be used as the main element for a pendant. Reticulated Texture Sheet has a pattern that resembles a 3D topographic map of the mountains.
This texture is obtained through a process of heating and quenching the sheet in Pickle Solution several times. This process forms a fine silver coating on the sheet and is known as Depletion Gilding.
The sheet is then heated to near melting temperature and the valleys and peaks are formed because the fine silver skin and the core react differently to the heat. Anyway just think of it as magic.
This textured sheet will be framed with silver wire to create the basis of a pendant that will include a stone in a bezel and realistic branch and leaf design elements.
Students will practice soldering, fabrication and reticulation techniques and will have a chance to complete the project in class.
