TRADITIONAL METHODS with John Vigeland of East Fork Pottery, a hands-on pottery workshop held at The Folk Art Guild.
The goal of this workshop is to develop one's throwing capacity through approaches rooted in the pre-industrial European-American production model. Students will be given a particular shape to throw based on their goals and aptitudes and over the course of the workshop, they will work to perfect it. Slip-trailing, a traditional decorative method, will also be demonstrated. Emphasis will be placed on technical proficiency, accuracy and efficiency.
John Vigeland was raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He studied painting and drawing at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. After 3 years of formal apprenticeship with Daniel Johnston in Seagrove, NC, John moved to Asheville, NC and partnered up with Alex Matisse at East Fork Pottery.
