The third season of BBQs is about to begin! Last year we had over 220 people at our Memorial Day event!
Most of you know the drill:
Pay Adam the $3 when you arrive, and receive your nametag - we have 24 colors of Sharpie markers so you can give it a personal touch.
We'll bring 3 large grills, tools, tables, coals, ice, meat coolers, and supplies like forks, spoons, knives, plates, bowls, cups, condiments, buns, etc (see long list below). You bring food to cook on grill and/or snacks/desserts/side dishes, drinks to enhance the fun, games to play, and your beautiful self!

The location will be same as last time which is at
Regardless of where you arrive at the park, enter the park at the driveway between 4th and 5th St, on Prospect Park West. It's much easier to locate the Picnic House if you stay on the street grid as long as possible before entering the park.
Walk a couple minutes to the end of the driveway/parking lot, cross the interior biking/running road, and you will see the picnic house. From the picnic house, you should see the large 13 star American flag hanging from "sportsbrella" in the picnic field. And the 3 red grills. That's us!
To get there:
By Public Transportation:
• F or G Train to 15th Street-Prospect Park or 7th Avenue station
• 2 or 3 Train to Grand Army Plaza station
• Q or B Train to 7th Avenue station
• B61 Bus along 9th Street to 9th Street/Prospect Park West

FEE FOR SUPPLIES:
We are asking everyone for a contribution of $3 to cover costs. These items cost a lot of money to acquire, maintain, and bring, so please understand why we’re doing this. Find Adam when you arrive to pay the $3 and receive a name tag. Thank you!
Bring SUNBLOCK LOTION! Ignore the Facebook weather report, if it shows rain or thunderstorms. They have NO idea what they're talking about. We will keep you updated.
For those uninitiated to NY weather forecasts, 30% or less chance of rain means there will be some clouds, but virtually no rain, if any. You also need to view the hourly report as weather changes quickly.
WE WILL SUPPLY THESE ITEMS BELOW. You bring FOOD and DRINKS other than water
As you can tell, we are spending quite a bit of money on this event so please help us out and have your suggested $3 ready when you see us. THANK YOU!

IDEAS FOR FOOD TO BRING
Meats, vegetables, side dishes, snacks, and desserts
This is a potluck BBQ so bring FOOD to share. We will supply hamburger buns, hot dog buns, American cheese slices, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, BBQ sauce, hot sause, relish, and other condiments/spices, so don't bring these. We provide ice cold water too. Bring other drinks for personal use, or to share only if you want.
Put your meats, especially chicken, in the freezer for up to an hour before you leave your apartment. It will be hot, and this will preserve raw meat until you arrive. We will have coolers and ice at the BBQ to keep meats fresh.
MEATS / FRUIT / VEGETABLES TO GRILL:
PLEASE BRING HAMBURGERS, if possible - we have had shortages of hamburgers!
- Hamburgers (pre-made patties)
- Hotdogs (100% beef)
- Salmon and other fish, shellfish
- Vegetables such as zucchini, egg plants, peppers, asparagus, corn on the cob, mushrooms, onions, or tomatoes.
OTHER FOOD to bring:
- SIDE DISHES: salads, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, cole slaw, chilli, macaroni salad, casserole, etc
- DESSERTS: cake, cupcakes, muffins, cookies, etc
- SNACKS: all types of chips, pretzels, etc
- FRUITS: pineapple and watermelon
Bring whatever you usually bring for a fun day in the sun and the park. Musical instruments, football (American and European), Frisbee, cards, hula hoops, water gun, etc
It is illegal to drink inside NYC public parks. However, the cops don't usually enforce unless you're making a show of it. So feel free to bring something. Just be discrete with your usage, and if you're going to bring a bottle of vodka, mix it first and put it in a 2 liter bottle so it is not in plain sight.
The closest place to the park for beer is a 10 minute walk to the Picnic House

Most everyone is great about concealing alcohol in the park. This also means throwing out empty bottles, cans, and any packaging in trash bags that we will provide. But with a large group, some people always get complacent and strut their stuff with a bottle in hand. Usually even that isn't a problem. However, police enforcement policy can always change arbitrarily, especially if some busybody do-gooder complains. So be prepared to conceal your drinks - we will be a huge group, and very visible, and in the unlikely scenario that the police are enforcing, it would be unfortunate for a couple people to ruin everyone's fun. So if I see ya showing off your drink, I'll be the buzz kill and ask you to hide it. I won't really be asking :)
ICE & COOLERS:
We will provide A TON OF ICE for ice water and keeping meats cold. We DO NOT provide anywhere to cool your drinks cold. Please bring a personal cooler, and if possible, some ice. PLEASE PLEASE do not use ice from the raw meat coolers for your drinks. There will be bags of clean ice for that. While it's unlikely that anything happens even if you use potentially dirty ice, don't temp food poisoning - it will kick your ass.
If you have a portable speaker and a good playlist, PLEASE bring it. But be respectful of your neighbors with volume.
This is a big endeavor so we might ask some of you to assist. We’ll need volunteer grillers all day. If you could help us the morning of the picnic to carry items from the car to the site, that’d be great too! Just let us know and we'll exchange numbers, and find a way to meet at 10 AM. Thank you!
We have 3 charcoal grills and all the tools of the trade.
Lastly, PLEASE KEEP YOUR STATUS UPDATED so we have an estimate of the number of people who will attend, so we can buy our supplies properly. Thanks for reading and hope to see you all soon!
