Michele Thomasson (piano) Selection of pieces from the four volumes of George Gurdjieff and Thomas de Hartman piano music - George Ivanovich Gurtjieff/Thomas de Hartmann George Ivanovic Gurdjieff, a spiritual teacher with a wide influence during the first half of the twentieth century, was not himself a 'composer' in the Western sense. However he left a substantial body of music on which he worked with Thomas de Hartmann who was a pupil of his. De Hartmann was a professional composer who had studied at the Moscow Conservatoire under Rimsky-Korsakov. Together, during 3 years in the 1920s they composed about 200 pieces for piano. These pieces have been published in 4 volumes by Schott's and many CDs now exist of this music both in the original piano version and also in arrangements for other instruments. Michele Thomasson is a professor of piano at the Lyon Conservatoire. She has given recitals in many European Countries and is one of the foremost interpreters of the piano music of Gurdjieff/De Hartmann. She has also worked for many years to understand what lies behind Gurdjieff’s teaching and his music.
