Spread the word!
Katie Brianna is a singer-songwriter from Sydney, Australia. A high school drop-out who preferred playing her red Fender electric to going to class, Katie began writing songs as a way to escape her seemingly incurable shyness. With her sweet, sorrowful voice, it wasn’t long before she caught the attention of some of her home country’s finest musicians and sure enough she was collaborating with Paul Kelly and Bill Chambers before her former classmates had even graduated.
After some years, some soul searching and some time alone to think about what kind of album she wanted to make, Katie has emerged with Dark Side Of The Morning, a deeply moving debut LP that meditates on sadness, suburban loneliness and young womanhood. The
songs and the voice behind them are uniquely Katie’s, yet listening to them it is easy to hear why she has been compared favorably to Kasey Chambers and Iris Dement.
Lisa Caruso’s voice and style of songwriting has been compared to an impassioned Edith Piaf, the dream state of Mazzy Star, and a gutsy Martha Wainwright. Not shy of an honest lyric, Caruso is known for delivering powerful love-lorn vocals that complement heart-on-sleeve lyrics, emoting when words just can't do the trick.
Her debut EP 'Take A Walk, once described as a track listing that could be heard on a David Lynch film, was released late 2014. The wistful collection of songs skip through Spektor-inspired widescreen pop, Greenwich-Village folk, and sees tunes that could sit comfortably on playlists between Feist and Cat Power. With whirling instrumentation and tasteful production flourishes never getting in the way of the actual songs, Caruso's music takes influence from the past and may also travel into the future.
Peasant Moon is the lovechild of Sydney singer songwriter Harvey Russell and long time collaborator Josie Rothwell. Harvey and Josie started singing together in a friend’s spare room many years ago and they’ve been playing in Sydney alt-country rock outfit Harvey Swagger Band ever since. Recently their shared love of americana and folk led them to form Peasant Moon, where they’ve paired back their sound to the essentials – Harvey’s acoustic and Tweedy-like vocals with Josie adding percussion and gentle harmonies.
Fading in the Light is the duo's debut EP.
