He founded the Jobs with Peace campaign in the 1980s and now chairs Massachusetts Peace Action’s Nuclear Weapons Abolition working group. He is also an officer of the Cambridge Residents Alliance and of Citizens for Public Schools. About Elaine Scarry Elaine Scarry, a professor of English and American literature, is Walter M. Cabot Professor of Aesthetics and the General Theory of Value at Harvard University. She is the author of eight books, most recently Thermonuclear Monarchy: Choosing Between Democracy and Doom. In it, she contends that nuclear weapons eliminate the citizenry and the legislature from the sphere of decision-making about war. About Bernard Lown Bernard Lown is Professor of Cardiology Emeritus at the Harvard School of Public Health, and is the original developer of the DC defibrillator as well as other key cardiac care innovations. He co-founded International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War in 1980 with Soviet cardiologist Dr. Yevgeny Chazov, and accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the organization in 1985.
