CALLING ALL PARROT HEADS AND PARAKEETS!
Join your DPHC Family for some family-friendly fun as we help raise money and awareness for endangered manatees at the 12th Annual "Save the Manatee" 5k Run / 2 Mile Walk / Mini Manatee Mile on Saturday May 16th, 2015 at the Huron-Clinton Lake St. Clair Metropark! (http://www.savethemanatee5k.com/).
This is an excellent opportunity to get together with your fellow Parrot Heads and meet their younger family members as we look forward to planning additional events for our DPHC “Parakeets!”
Register early and receive a manatee t-shirt and a gift from the Save the Manatee Club. Manatee medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in the 5K, as well as trophies for the overall male, overall female, overall male master and overall female master. Also, manatee medals (three deep) will be awarded to age group winners, and all participants will receive Save the Manatee Club finisher’s medals. This is a dog friendly event; and all dogs will also receive their own finishing medal! The park entrance fee of $7 is not included with race registration.
Over the last eleven years, this event has raised over $100,000 for the Florida-based Save the Manatee Club, a national nonprofit conservation organization and the voice for manatees since 1981.
The Save the Manatee Club was co-founded by renowned singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett and former U.S. Senator and Florida Governor, Bob Graham. Funds from the race go toward a variety of conservation and education projects to help protect manatees and their aquatic habitat, as well as rescuing and rehabilitating manatees.
