Workshop Leader: Beth Giles.
Beth is a multi-disciplinary printmaker and papermaker who maintains a studio in North Haven, NY. Her work is exhibited regionally and nationally and is in private, corporate, and public collections. She currently teaches papermaking, drawing, art appreciation, and two-dimensional design at Suffolk Community College. Formerly, she was assistant professor in the Arts and Media Division at Southampton College.
Whether you are just interested in the art of papermaking or are a beginner or experienced papermaker, Beth’s creative approach to papermaking and using handmade paper in your artistic or writing practice will be both enjoyable and enriching. This workshop will include basic sheet formation, pulp preparation, and the use of additives for color and formation. You’ll have the opportunity to use various natural fibers and shaped deckles while exploring laminating techniques and the use of inclusions such as seaweed, plants, dried flowers, grasses, and other materials of your choice.
A list of supplies will be given to you when you register.
This small-group workshop will take place in Beth’s paper and printmaking studio.
Workshop and Materials Fee: $40
Participants must call (631) 537-9735 for reservations and information about meeting places.
