In addition to being a novelist and a screenwriter, Graham Greene was also a spy, and once worked for the infamous Kim Philby. His experiences in the secret world inspired this witty satire about a British vacuum cleaner salesman (Alec Guinness) who is recruited by MI-6 to be a spy in Cuba during the Batista regime. By the time Greene and director Carol Reed got around to making the film in Havana, Fidel Castro had come down from the mountains to take over the island nation. I'm working on a video to introduce the film. After the screening, we will share our reactions.
