This is an excellent hike with great views - and it's a good workout! Please note that this hike involves a rock scramble towards the top. If there is a group that would prefer to skip the rock scramble, the group may consider hiking up and back on the fire road.
If you have not been to Old Rag Mountain, PLEASE READ Info to Prepare for the hike: http://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/old-rag-hike-prep.htm
Suggestions: Wear pants and light layers. Pants help with the rock scramble (protect your legs) and the layers will help with sun protection. Bring a pair of light gloves if you have sensitive hands. I usually wear bike gloves (Pearl Izumi etc.) to protect my palms while tackling the rocky section. Hiking shoes, trail runners, and running shoes will work for this hike. Sandals are not recommended. Pack water and snacks and/or a light lunch to enjoy at the summit. This is a pack in/pack out park, so all garbage must be kept with us.
Meet June 6, 2015 at DC Metro Church parking lot at 6:30 a.m., leaving at 7:00 a.m. The goal is to be at the park and starting up the mountain at 9 a.m.
Depending on interest, there may be another pick up location.
Please contribute $5.00 to your driver and to the park entrance if you do not have an annual pass. I have one pass, so if you ride with me, you're good.
For those interested, we will stop for dinner at Griffin Tavern again.
THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL DCMC METRO GROUP. I forgot to sign up. Sorry. :-)
Email me with questions. See you on the 6th!
