Once again this event will have a booth setup for the Nepal Fundraiser.
In the face of insurmountable destruction the Nepalese community, bay area organizations and communities led by local charity Induz, has come together to create a grass roots movement to organize and deliver earthquake relief to Nepal.
Nepal Earthquake Relief Grassroots Efforts in Bay Area
Bay Area grassroots community response to Nepal earthquake gets overwhelming response in just 5 short days on Facebook...
SILICON VALLEY, CA. - A testament to the power of a collective heartfelt community response, social media and quick action has produced unbelievable response.
One Bay area resident's empathy, response and desire to help has led to over 7,000+ followers on Facebook in 5 days and resulted in over 300 pounds of medical supplies already on the ground in Nepal being distributed in remote areas previously unreached by aid!
On Monday April 27, just 6 short days ago, Ray Mitra and his wife Piya Mitra created an event flyer on Facebook to collect some donations in response to help those who have lost so much. Never did they expect the resulting "firestorm" of response as goods, money, assistance and radiant smiles poured in from every direction. Today over 7,000 people are following this effort through messages, updates and pictures on Facebook.
A single drop off point in Fremont, California morphed into 12 sites literally overnight... Today Ray estimates there are 40-50 locations collecting clothes, blankets, sleeping bags and desperately needed medical supplies.
Now all they need is a plane to get these already packed, organized and marked supplies to the earthquake victims of Nepal.
This crowdrise account was created to support the requests from community members to donate.
About the Venue:
Le Colonial, just minutes away from popular Union Square in San Francisco’s downtown district, evokes the ambiance of French colonial Vietnam in a lush, romantic setting. The inner courtyard, which once housed legendary Trader Vic’s, has been transformed into an oasis featuring mosaic-like tile flooring, a vaulted, pressed-tin ceiling, tropical plants and plush rattan furniture, all accented by the glow of candlelight. Diners enjoy a menu designed to showcase authentic Vietnamese dishes with a touch of French influence. Le Colonial has delighted in welcoming visitors for over ten years.
