Under the direction of drummer, vibraphonist, and bandleader Mitch Shiner, “Shiney & Friends” aims to bridge the gap between classic jazz and contemporary pop music. This six-piece band stands at a crossroads between Art Blakey and Taylor Swift, Jay-Z and George Gershwin. Between original compositions, mashups, and adventurous arrangements penned by each member, this band leaves no genre undisturbed. “Shiney & Friends” shares an action-packed set with listeners of all ages!
Shiner, a 2014 IU Jacobs School of Music alum, is breaking on to the Indianapolis music scene as both a sideman and a leader. Currently he holds the drum chair for the Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra. Mitch performs regularly with Everett Greene, Clifford Ratliff, Charlie Ballantine Trio, and the Avenue Indy Jazz Quintet. Mitch is a recording artist for Patois Records, and recently released his debut CD “FLY!” featuring original compositions and arrangements for the BloomingTones Big Band.
