The popular Old Bike Track at Inveresk adjacent to the old bike track is again the venue for the Launceston Million Paws Walk on 17 May with plenty of convenient free parking. Although the Walks don't start until 11am, gates open for registrations at 10am and while that's going on there will be games to warm up toes and paws - Musical Mutt Mats (doggie version) and Fetch the Newspaper. Microchipping will begin at 10am with a discounted price of $30 for MPW participants ($35 for others). The official Walk starts at 11am with Rosemary Armitage MLC cutting the ribbon and leading the walk with an RSPCA adoption dog. There are two routes to choose - a longer walk through Heritage Forest and a short walk for those dogs and their humans who are not quite so fit... Back at MPW HQ there will be more games and competitions – best dressed, waggliest tail, etc - with great prizes! Foodwise, we'll have a sausage sizzle with vegetarian options, pancakes and great coffee, pancakes. Other stalls will feature pet-related services and products. Launceston City Council will be in attendance to register dogs for free, and to record microchip details. Every participant will receive a lucky door prize ticket, which will be drawn at 1.10pm, and the winner must be in attendance to win. The prize is a great little GPS device called a POD that helps you track your missing pet via your mobile phone. The Million Paws Walk is the biggest fundraising event on RSPCA’s calendar, and profits will help us to continue the vital work we do statewide in supporting more than 5000 animals that pass through our Care Centre doors each year. It's a fantastic family day out where the family pooch is not just tagging along - they're the stars of the day! All dogs must be on leads and in the event of bad weather (surely not twice in a row?!) the event will move to the Roundhouse off Forster Street. If you haven't registered yet, do it online because discount registrations are still available until Thursday 14 May. You can register and buy merchandise on the day at the venue.
