“It’s not too soon to call her great. She owns the future.”—JazzTimes
Melissa Aldana, tenor sax
Pablo Menares, bass
Francisco Mela, drums
Chilean tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana is winner of the prestigious 2013 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition and the first female instrumentalist to take first prize. A teenage standout on the Chilean jazz scene before attending Berklee College of Music, Aldana has a big, fierce sound with range that’s “controlled and loose, old and new” (New York Times). For Crash Trio, the 27 year-old has enlisted fellow Chilean Pablo Menares on bass and the astonishing, Cuban-born drummer Francisco Mela to support her meteoric sonic flights. Don’t miss Aldana as she leads one of the most exhilarating jazz combos around.
