Each program begins at 12 o’clock. Receptions follow weekly. Please bring a friend to Tuesday Noon Concerts in May, to hear great music, support the tradition and culture of organ music, and represent CLS to another part of the music world.
In order to promote public interest in the organ and its literature, the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Guild of Organists presents a FREE 30-minute public noontime organ recital every Tuesday, traveling throughout the region and month-by-month co-sponsoring with and at a different church. Of course only churches with worthy instruments are included! Church of the Loving Shepherd co-hosted for the first time in May 2014. The programs were enjoyed by all, and the circuit returns to us this May. 2015 scheduled recitalists, all Philadelphia Chapter members, are:
May 5 Edward Landin
May 12 Martha Johnson
May 19 Kathleen Scheide
May 26 Leah Martin
Edward Landin, Assistant Organist at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, will play a new work by resident organist Kathleen Scheide. Martha Johnson, Organist Emeritus, St. Peter’s in the Great Valley, will focus on earlier repertoire: Bach, Frescobaldi and Purcell. Kathleen Scheide will play lesser-known works by Pescetti and Drischner. Leah Martin, organ major at Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, is preparing a varied program. Edward and Leah are Kathleen’s former students. Leah has played at Church of the Loving Shepherd several times, including May noon series in 2014. In May 2014 we also heard Martha’s former Assistant and current Music Director at St. Peter’s, Bruce Glenny. We trust St. Peter’s organists to be sympathetic to our organ because they are also accustomed to playing a small tracker with a related provenance to ours, and in a BARN!
