Over the two days we will hike a selection of, mainly, low level hikes where wildflowers abound. We will start at Rhodo Flats, a convenient stop along the way to Manning Lodge. We’ll try to get in as many trails as we can, including Canyon Nature Trail, Lightning Lake, Strawberry Flats and Dry Ridge (to seek the elusive Steershead ,) If we can arrange it conveniently, we can take in Somalo Grove on the way home and I will try to find the trail to the old mine site.
To whet your appetite here are some species we found on prior trips with Janet McIntosh: Glacier Lily, Spring Beauty, Rosy Twisted Stalk, Star-flowered Solomon’s Seal, Queen’s Cup, Wild Ginger, Pinesap, Spreading Phlox, Spring Gold, Red Twinberry, Calypso Lily, and Chocolate Lily.
Participants should arrange their own accommodations. I will be tenting at the campground near Lightning Lake. The tent sites can easily hold 2 or even 3 tents. The Lodge (1-800-330-3321) has Queen rooms with 2 queen size beds for $99.00 plus tax. Each room has a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The lodge has a full service restaurant, pool and hot tub.
Transportation by carpool from Softball City.
Leave June 9 at 8:30 with plan to be back Jun 10 by 6:00.
