The Manchester Angels are an altruistic group of caring people who have come together to help the homeless and most vulnerable in the city centre.
Whether you live in the city or use the cities facilities... We care about you!
We offer outreach support; hot food; clothing; tents; sign posting; general information; emergency phone calls; hot drinks; sleeping bags; emergency foil blankets; housing advice and much more... We're always looking for more volunteers to develop solutions to the problems we face in society... So whether you can cook food; have old items lying around you no longer use or just want to come down and offer your expertise... Please come and join us in solidarity.
Following the #MarchForTheHomeless we've setup a #HomelessCampMCR called Homeless Rights of Justice Mcr and they're currently raising awareness on a daily basis opposing the evictions from Manchester City Council.
We're campaigning against the evil austerity cuts to Manchester and would welcome everyone to come and get involved in this community initiative that's aim is to stop people dying on the streets of Manchester; help as many people as we can and allow people to make positive changes in life... After all, it costs NOTHING to give someone your time.
The council are choosing to specifically target cuts to both the homelessness support services and also mental health... The most vulnerable people who need our help :-(
The only way to really create solutions to the problems in society is by understanding the root cause. We need to listen to the homeless people of Manchester and understand the obstacles they face on a daily basis.
It's one of our volunteers birthday next bank holiday weekend and she wanted to do something special for the homeless... Whilst simultaneously raising awareness for the campaign and to inspire more people to get involved. Sarah is one of our most valuable volunteers and travels a long way to get to Manchester with absolutely LOADS of food each week, her and her partner are a credit to this initiative.
We aim to campaign the fun way... By having a huge BBQ; live music; film under the stars and to network with as many campaigners; groups; activists; service users; service providers; independent councillors and the whole general public... And unite as ONE.
FOOD = LOVE
With these cuts 'coming into play' now, it's #TimeForAction
So please, if you're a musician, bring down your instruments... If you're a singer... Bring down yourself... Your band... Maybe even a PA system??? We have a generator for power so it would be amazing if someone could help with a rig!!! Maybe even a DJ set? Reggae band playing steel pans and drums <3
If you're a good cook, please bring down some food, you could prepare the food and we'll cook it or you can get involved and help out as a volunteer <3
Please scour your homes and your families homes for items you no longer use... Especially camping equipment.
The more people attend, the better... We'll even have a few BBQ's so that we can cater for vegan & vegetarian diets also.
Let's get the whole family involved... Get baking cakes with your children and educate them about homelessness. Our younger generations need to see that this is wrong.
We'll have bain maries; tea urns; gas stoves; soup kettles etc available so you can even bring down prepared food that we can re-heat or even cook it fresh on the gardens!
Ask around all of the shops near you to see if they throw away food or would be willing to donate it to our cause.
Please feel free to bring down hot-dogs; tinned soup; sandwiches; burgers; sausages; chicken legs; sweetcorn and anything else you're good at making <3
The end of the night will complete with a showing of a mystery movie under the stars... ;)
We'll arrange for a projector so that we can watch it in the gardens :-)
It would also be amazing if we could have a few guest speakers on the day too... I'll gladly speak and explain the full extent of the problems Manchester is currently facing both with the central and local governments wanting to oppress the poor and most vulnerable in society...
It's not good... And it's only going to get worse...
This is why I setup these campaigns... Because I could see this coming... :-(
Let's show these oppressors that we are stronger in numbers...
That we will come together at times of need...
And they better expect us ;)
