This year we are offering two different trips to Skye; this is the Classic Walk Week which includes 5 days of long walks exploring some of the most spectacular mountains and scenery to be found on Skye. These will be full day walks; there is an optional day on the fast rib wild life boat trip to the Isle of Rum and Canna.
If you are looking for a gentler experience on Skye then please visit our Adventure and Explore week, which includes gentler day walks and a few more excursions and trips.
Arriving late on Saturday afternoon the evening will be spent settling ourselves in to our stunning and cosy remote cottage. We will enjoy a lovely welcome meal and discuss the plans for the week.
Each morning you will be able to enjoy a hearty breakfast before we head out for the days adventures. As part of this event we will plan 5 days of walks in and around Skye. We will plan these in line with what the group would like to do and will look to work with the weather to get the most from our week. All of the walks will be around 10-14 miles depending on the location and the will of the group. You are of course free to bring a good book and relax in the library or just chill out in front of the roaring fire...it's your holiday!
Just some of the places we plan to visit include the world famous Old Man of Storr, the Quairaing, Dunvegan and the pretty port town of Portree. We will also enjoy one day exploring part of the famous Cullin Ridge although this event will not see us traverse its' entirety! We hope to include a pretty boat tour from Elgol across the loch to Loch Coruisk before walking back along the shore to where we began... This is a truly beautiful area.
The price of this event includes all food for the week, with the exception of two nights when we will head to a local restaurant to sample some of the most amazing fresh fish restaurants this part of Scotland has to offer. As normal on our events, tea and coffees will be provided you just need to bring anything alcoholic you wish to enjoy over the course of the week.
Skye is a long way... and with this in mind we will put everyone in touch with each other beforehand so that you can arrange car shares etc. Last year for example groups broke the journey and all met up in Glasgow on the Friday night before enjoying a leisurely drive to Skye on Saturday stopping at famous tourist spots and view points along the way.
About our accommodation:
Our venue for this event can only be described as spectacular. This beautiful 18th century house, the former dower house of Dunvegan Castle, has been sympathetically and stylishly refurbished to create a wonderfully spacious, over three floors. With a fantastic kitchen/dining/sitting room which stretches the full length of the house. The door to the garden brings the outside in as do the many of the long windows – it is a lovely room. The large Aga at one end and the wood burning stove at the other end make this cosy all year, and it joins directly to the snug, where you can curl up and read or watch TV. The open plan sitting room on the first floor has a wonderful view of the sea loch and Castle, while the top floor library provides a quiet retreat.
You can view images of the accommodation below. The Beautiful Uiginish Lodge sits at the end of a single track road on the North West coast of Skye and beyond are long walks along the shoreline, cliff tops and beaches where there is nothing but the sound of birdsong and the sea. It is a truly spectacular location – just walk from the garden across the paddock and you are at the seashore and the views of Dunvegan Castle are wonderful. Eagles are regular visitors here and you have a good chance of seeing these magnificent creatures along with numerous other wildlife including the famous Dunvegan seals, otters, deer and a multitude of birds.
Rooms are offered on either a shared twin basis or in double rooms.
