His granDfather, antonio “el mosquito” camacho, was a background singer for the paladium mambo king machito and angels’ father, luis lebron, was well known for his excellence within the romantic trios played with el trio de johnny rodriguez, (brother to another paladium king tito rodriguez), el trio san juan, daniel santos and many more. raised within the true and pure sound of latin big band music ANGEL began to learn in the streets of new york city another sound, el tambor. this sound penetrated angels’ soul and felt the rythms as if he always knew it. after knowing the feeling of the conga at an early age that took angel to many south bronx street jams and battles meeting great congeros which we know today, they all came from the same barrios. after returning from vietnam in 1968, angel continued his love for latin rythms which took him to babatunde olatunji of nigeria a master drummer of all african drummers, the originator oF jingo which carlos santana made so popular, angel was accepted as student and mentored by chief bey (lead percussionist for the famous alvin ailey harlem dance theatre) becoming part of the group “drums of passion”. angel then used his latin street influence with the disciplined sound of olatunji blending his own patterns and technique. in 1970, angel joined johnny colon and his latin jazz sextet meeting and knowing latin greats as joe bataan, jose febles, willie colon, frankie dante, joey pastrana, milton cardona, nicky marrero, the tnt band and many more to later work with la india, ina kaina, and los hermanos colon. after 30 years with a family and new generation of future lebron musicians, angel lebron moved his sound to his new home – los angeles, california. having to prove himself angel low keyed and “new kid” in town didn’t take too long to pass audition for the swing big band “noahs ark” went on with Eliot newmann jazz ensemble, the dubin collective (featured in 2 cds), jeannie holiday r&b revue, second faze, toledo, de la funk, the martin dancers and rocky padilla playing all over southern california. in april, 2007, angel was asked by his family with total support to form and direct his own band and do what he does best, returning to his musical and artistic roots of the latin big band sound of that new york city classic street salsa which he grew up to and witnessed pure salsa. this amazing 14 piece band in a short period of time has taken los angeles by “storm” playing in over capacity major salsa clubs and festivals has grown in popularity dedicating his appearances to his fathers and the musicians of the nyc paladium era This has become one of Chicago biggest Latin Night in Chicago.
