Live on the Ley Album Launch - Scott Cook, Jez Hellard, Alastair Caplin, Nathan Ball & Nye Parsons w/Carrie Tree
At the end of the last Scott Cook & Jez Hellard UK Tour we recorded a live album, featuring Alastair Caplin, Nathan Ball and Nye Parsons. It's very good. We'll be releasing it in London on Tuesday, June 9th in the intimate splendour of No.14 Bacon St just off Brick Lane. We will be joined by the enchanting singing and playing of Carrie Tree. It will be a beautiful night and we'd love you to be there.
It's a tiny venue and tickets are very limited, so I thought it best to get the word out early. If you don't know the music of these six musicians, you should.
Alastair Caplin is a violinist, singer and composer of rare talent. He has performed with the likes of Abigail Washburn, The Incredible String Band, Dave Swarbrick , Richard Thompson and Alasdair Roberts, and made a name for himself with the power house trio, The John Langan Band. www.alastaircaplin.com
Scott Cook has been described as “one of Canada’s most imaginative storytellers”. Roots music magazine Penguin Eggs calls his fourth album, One More Time Around “as much a manifesto as a musical work,” teeming with “wry
observations and hopeful life lessons.” www.scottcook.net
Jez Hellard is singer of potent songs, stunning harmonica player and fine guitarist mostly found touring with his band The Djukella Orchestra. He and Scott met at the top of a stairwell on the island of Taiwan in 2001 and take every opportunity to collaborate when geography allows. www.jezhellard.com
Nathan Ball is a songwriter, singer, guitarist and luthier. His beautifully written songs reveal depths of humanity and a keen eye for metaphor, accompanied by intricate and expressive finger-style guitar. He also hand-crafts fine guitars, one of which he’s playing on this record.
Nye Parsons is a stylish double-bassist with a lyrical style which will have you craning your neck for a better view. His wealth of jazz and classical training bring a unique dexterity to his interpretations of folk and modern forms.
Carrie Tree is an incredible singer and crafter of sublime songs. If you've yet to experience her music, you're in for a treat. A leading light of the alternative festival scene, she regularly plays Glastonbury and many major events, and has collaborated with the likes of Damien Rice, Fink, Duke Special, Rumer, Carly Simon, Ben Taylor, Martha Tilston – even the prog rock band Marillion! She will add a whole new dimension to the ensemble... www.carrietree.co.uk
