If you’re planning on seeing Maroon 5 on the European leg of their upcoming 2015 V tour, you may want to consider getting there early so you can catch the opening set of their Interscope labelmate and all-round-one-to-watch Nick Gardner. The Manchester-raised singer-songwriter today released his debut single Lose You to iTunes*, and it’s an atmospheric slice of brooding electronics, that sees Gardner’s soulful vocals rising above a pulsating backdrop of moody, dropping beats and heady dreamwave synths. *[Update – a UK promotional campaign has now been scheduled in to re-launch the single to UK iTunes on 11 January, suggesting that people in pop have made plans to make this a much bigger hit than it has been to date]. It’s a far cry from the incredible YouTube ‘mash-up’ of Adele’s Someone Like You and OneRepublic’s Secrets (the latter only contributing a chorus) which has already notched up over 1.6 million views on the video streaming site and, more importantly, caught the attention of star-making label boss Jimmy Iovine who quickly spotted the singer’s potential and signed him up.
