Would you like a to be a volunteer history guide at Peralta Hacienda? This is your chance!
For four Saturdays in May, Peralta Hacienda is offering a free class that will allow you to specialize in Peralta family history or Native American history-or both!
The four sessions will be held
May 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 230-530:
2:30-4:00pm--Native American Story
4:00-530pm--Peralta Family Story
It's open to anyone who wants to learn about the history of Fruitvale and Oakland and would enjoy volunteering as guides at the Peralta House Museum of History and Community after the training. The museum is chock-full of information and exhibits which engage the five senses. You will learn how to open and shut the museum, and set up the exhibits. It's a great learning experience.
All previous docents are welcome to join in these classes as a brush-up.
The class will be taught by Diane Wang, master teacher, aided for some sessions by Holly Alonso, the museum's chief curator.
Bi-lingual English-Spanish speakers are encouraged to take this class. The Peralta House exhibit labels are now fully bi-lingual and we need guides who can give tours to Spanish-speaking visitors.
