This trip is sponsored by the Historical Society and it is unique in the sense that it will include the local
involvement at the battlefield. You will see the film “The Birth Of Freedom”, the “Gettysburg
Cyclorama” a 360 degree painting of the entire battlefield, and have time to explore the Gettysburg
Museum, but the main feature of the day will be a three hour private tour with a Licensed Battlefield
We have been assigned Joe Mieczkowski, a well known and respected LBG. Joe is a living Civil War
historian and educator. Joe portray's Lincoln's Secretary of War, Simon Cameron, as well as
Gettysburg resident, Davis Wills. He is the past president of The Gettysburg Civil War Round Table.
Our tour will include :
…...... The role played by the 143rd. (mostly from Luzerne County, led by Col. Dana) and 149th. Pa.
Volunteers on July 1.
…...... Rickett's battery defense of East Cemetary Hill on July 2.
…...... Union defense of Pickett's charge on July 3.
There will be some walking with each tour, but not over rough terrain, so wear comfortable shoes. For
lunch there is a cafeteria on the premises (your treat). Dinner stop on the way home will be at the
Cracker Barrel Restaurant, Frackville (your treat).
Your hosts for the day will be Atty. Stephen Killian and his wife, Estella.
