In order to greet the veterans as they get off the plane, you'll have to show photo ID to get a gate pass, and get through security by 8ish. We usually arrive by 7 and then Grab food at Max & Erma's while we wait for the flight to arrive. Park in the economy lot for the cheapest parking rates!
Wearing red, white and blue is not required, but it makes for great pictures. Feel free to bring signs, flags, posters, banners, friends and family. Warm up your hands and vocal cords because we expect applause, cheers and whistles from the first veteran to the last as they come through the terminal. You will have an opportunity to shake hands with a hero if you wish, but you may have to wait until they all come through -- it takes a while to get 150-160 people all the way in. You may want to bring a few tissues with you -- emotions run high and there are always happy tears. Our goal is to give these WWII and Korean veterans the kind of welcome home they never received the first time they came home. They deserve it and we need to give them this gift. These welcomes always lift our spirits and make us feel good for days. It's a win-win for everyone.
All flights leave from the Dayton International Airport at 6:00 AM. We return home the same day around 10:35 PM. Please come out to the Dayton Airport in the evening and Welcome Home the Veterans!
